Another example where the system 2 of thinking is well demonstrated is when doctors are required to deliver quality care to patients belonging to the Muslim faith. The Muslim faith entails a number of ethnicities with different views concerning diseases and healthcare. As a consequence, non-Muslim healthcare providers are being faced with challenges in the care of patients of the Muslim faith. For instance, one of the issues facing non-Muslim male doctors today in is their inability to make quick decisions when delivering healthcare to female Muslim patients. Before they can jump to conclusions, physicians need to be aware of issues relating to contact and privacy when dealing with female Muslim patients. The Islam religion has offered a set of spiritual guidelines which emphasizes on maintaining health.

The beliefs of Muslims tend to have an impact on the attitudes and as well as behavior concerning their wellbeing. As a result Muslim patient always utilize the system 1 of thinking when the services offered to them conflict with their religious beliefs and practices. But, healthcare professionals also need to remember that the preservation of life may override the set religious guidelines in some exceptional cases. This is where system 2 of thinking is demonstrated. On the other hand, in order for system 1 and system 2 of thinking to be agreed with each other, the healthcare providers require an in-depth understanding of the background of their patients in order to provide healthcare that is sensitive to culture. The social intuitionist framework provides an explanation of why such a moral argument may be frustrating especially to a healthcare professional (Haidt 54).

The doctor, therefore, cannot change the argument of a patient who refuses treatment on moral grounds by plainly refuting their reasons. However, healthcare professionals may also change the minds of such patients by eliciting new rationales. The success of the doctors in being able to reach an agreement also lies in their ability to get into the worldview of their patients and view things from their angle as well as their own. The system 2 of thinking is slow and demands a considerable among to cognitive effort, and though it is less likely to produce errors, it is not foolproof. Therefore, both system 1 and system 2 of thinking are helpful in the right situation and at the appropriate time. Combined together, they enhance efficiency in reasoning, making decisions and act as a way of restoring order during chaos and cases of uncertainty.
