The poem Odyssey written by Homer and later translated by Robert Fagles is a literary work that shows the kind of hospitality depicted at the time. It is natural that the authors at a specific time will, obviously write in accordance with the issues they face in the society or they are in support. Hospitality is a theme that has been well brought forth in the ancient poem as strength of the characters in the poem. Through the characters described the author encourages the reader to be more hospitable to strangers. The paper analyses the theme of hospitality as described in the Poem Odyssey and how necessary the act can be to the society. Telemachus and Odysseus were much welcomed and invited to feasts in several occasions during their travels and in most instances given gifts an act that shows there was a belief that motivated the people into doing so (Herman,184).
