Transition vs change
Document Type:Essay
Subject Area:Management
Throughout our lives, there are many different changes that will take place, and each time they will require a response from us. The kind of change that takes place is likely to determine what kind of reaction will be required. In some cases, these changes are quite small and the transition required is equally small. At these times, some of these changes may go unnoticed, and others may be considered as part of life. However, when significant changes take place in our lives, they require a different and more deliberate approach to manage the transition. After two and a half years, I decided that the life of a real estate agent wasn’t for me and decided to go back to school to pursue my degree.
The first phase of transition is the ending phase (Bridges, 2004). This is a time where the change that has occurred is still new and is one of the hardest phases to go through. After getting used to a life of structure and routine, readjusting and beginning to live as an ordinary civilian was quite different. I no longer had to wear a uniform or get up early every day. This was quite confusing at first, and I would often get frustrated while on the job. I had not been able to explore other professions; therefore I tried to cling on to the job for as long as I could. After about two and a half years, I had grown to appreciate and understand life as a civilian, and my aspirations began to grow.
