A rose for emily shortstory analysis
Owing to such royalty and a high social status, Emily’s compound could be hardly accessed by any stranger (Faulkner 3). Therefore, it can be interpreted that the Griersons had detached from society because they believed to be sufficiently independent. The family had secluded itself from the activities of the community and Emily’s father could not even allow any man to propose to her daughter. It is also narrated that the family was recognized by the mayor of this town such that Emily enjoyed a tax exemption. When questioned about the matter, Emily reassures the Board of Aldermen that her exclusion from tax submissions was authorized by Colonel Sartois, a former mayor. Their dealings could even be the reason why Emily is exempted from paying taxes.
