Schizophrenia appears in the late adolescence or early adult hood. It is characterized by delusions hallucinations and several cognitive difficulties (Barta et al. The effects of schizophrenia affect families and friends of the patient too. The symptoms of schizophrenia are classified into several categories. To start with, the positive symptoms, also known as psychotic symptoms include delusions and hallucinations. The patients may withdraw themselves socially believing that someone will harm them. The causes of schizophrenia are environmental factors acting together with genetic factors. There is an inherited characteristic in the condition but effects of the environment trigger it. Genetically, a family with no history of schizophrenia has few chances of its development. Imbalance of chemicals in the brain like dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter, contributes in the cause of schizophrenia.
