The middle part of Monteverdi’s madrigal is very similar to the same madrigal by Turini. “Both composers set the poet's figures nearly identically”claims Ossi, Professor of Music (Musicology) at Indiana University. For the epilogue Monteverdi switches from duple to triple meter to highlight images presented in the song and flight. Many observers, both average music lovers and highly qualified scholars believe that this piece is mainly about love. Monteverdi suggests that himself as his eighth book of madrigals is divided between sings of war and songs of peace.
