WhatsApp is a messaging application for Smartphones. It allows people to send messages, images, videos, and audios to one another. Because of its popularity, WhatsApp is considered one of the many technological advancements that are gradually changing how human beings communicate (Church & De Oliveira 352-361). Thus, WhatsApp sociality significantly changes the conversations between a group of people. At least one billion people all over the world use WhatsApp to remain in touch with friends, families, and clients. Posing questions allows friends to learn more about what each of them does (Guberti). Follow up questions can be formed around the pattern that follows as the questions end up resulting in multiple conversations. • They are engaging in numerous conversations with one individual. Just because a conversation has come to an end does not imply that a group of friends will not have another conversation again.

Just like a face-to-face type of friendship, WhatsApp allows friends to talk to each other again and again. • Responding quicker to messages is another great way to encourage more conversations. The most extended conversations occur when individuals quickly respond to one another. It is because your friends are much more likely to remember what the conversation is about when an individual responds quicker(Guberti). As an individual, one can also thoughtfully contribute to the conversation by posing questions and trying as much as possible to what is going on with the other party. It enables them to feel comfortable and more willing to share, thus, continuing the conversation. It is, therefore, safe to say that a platform such as WhatsApp takes away critical elements of conversations.

Thus, our friends merely receive a partial message lacking the feelings or emotions which inform the messages we send. The most sensitive topics often demand face to face conversations. Relations such as friendships also require face-to-face conversations to be built and clear up misunderstandings. Interactions over WhatsApp do not create the same kind of intimate and deep connections between a group of friends as face-to-face conversations. Nonetheless, a group of friends may engage in action-oriented conversations once in a while. However, current statistics indicate that conversations of friends who use the application majorly revolve around jokes and laughter. Initially, the platforms were created to enable people to connect in ways that other messaging applications could not allow (Montag 331). Friends could only be able to send messages to one another, but also share videos, images, and audio recordings without the limits of geographical bounds.

It became a way for distant friends to remain in touch without feeling like they are missing out on one another daily events and occurrences. In most cases, friends found out that their friend has been going through something when it is already too late. While platforms such as WhatsApp have made us much more interconnected, they have also made us strangers to one another. Ways WhatsApp is Changing Relationships (Friendships) A facet of media platforms such as WhatsApp is the emphasis on enabling and maintaining relationships. Every content that is shared is designed not only to create but also foster relationships that are more intimate between people. Nonetheless, it is crucial to note that social media (WhatsApp) is transforming human’s interpersonal psychology / the foundations of how human beings relate (Yus 66-86).

As a person engaged in friendly relations with another person, it is possible for one to be seduced by the fact that it easy to connect with friends over online platforms. Once that has occurred an individual may begin to believe that a particular relationship is as intense as it conveyed, with the same level of commitment and completion as they imagine it to be (Rongjing et al. The reality is, sometimes the opposite could be true. On the other hand, by spending our daily lives communicating with our friends on WhatsApp, people run the risk of secluding the people who are present in their daily lives. They do so while pursuing online friendships and intimacy that nobody is quite sure if they are real or not.

However, just like any other social network used to communicate, people today over-rely on the application such that we end up losing the human sense of touch and feel. In the case of WhatsApp, we find that the use of words has been replaced with emojis. While the intention of creating such a platform is not to rob us of some aspects of human nature that are critical in communication, it is feared that the simplicity of WhatsApp is making people lazy. Decoding the meaning behind the words used in conversations has become a matter of assumptions rather than practicality and reality. Therefore, it is critical for users of the platform engage in a much more healthy habit where there is a right balance between the amount of time spent communicating via WhatsApp and face-to-face communication with real-life friends.
