Baseline measurements can help in setting the starting points against which reasonable goals can be set. Testing at intervals can be done to track the progress of the athlete in achieving the set goals. The coach can also use the test as the basis of setting goals for individual athletes. When these goals are taken together, they help in accomplishing team objectives. Through the results provided from the test, the participants can ascertain their capabilities to perform various activities. For a test to produce good results, it must be reliable To ensure reliability; many variables should be standardized since they affect the results, these variables are the test protocol, the performer should be motivated, the environment, the pre-test physical state, and familiarization with the test.

Standardizing the Environment On field test are affected by environmental factors, this calls for considerations of the alterations that could be caused by any change in the weather conditions. Some changes caused by weather are slippery surfaces or extreme temperatures. The test should, in this case, be performed when the environmental conditions are at best levels. Standardizing the Test Protocol For results to be meaningful and comparable, the test protocol must be standardized. Due to this, the coach can determine the areas that are essential when performing tests. The coach is also best informed when it comes to athletics; this means that he can best determine the best parameters to be used when testing. The major areas that a coach considers when it comes to testing are; physical, technical, mental and the technical areas (Wayne Goldsmith, 2010).
