Kate got married to Oscar Chopin and they lived together until his death when she went back to stay with her mother. She began the writing journey while at her mother’s place (Toth, 9). Kate’s literary works and specifically, The Story of an Hour, reflect certain aspects of her life. There are two themes that are clearly evident throughout the story. The theme of love and alienation have been depicted in the entire story. Mallard symbolizes the liberation and independence of Mrs. Mallard. The theme of romantic love has been exemplified in certain instances. At the start of the story, it is explained that Mrs. Mallard was experiencing heart troubles and thus the news her husband’s demise had to be delivered as sequentially as possible.

While alone in a room that only consists of a chair and a window, she starts to think of the events that have just occurred. At first, it seems as if Mrs. Ballard just needs some time alone, but later in the story, it appears as if something big was coming over her. She starts recalling her life as a young kid and how she used to look like. She sees herself as a young girl who had a fair and calm face that possessed a certain strength (Chopin, 1). The author states that she feels her bosom rise and fall back. She tries to fight this thing that is coming over her when she recognizes it but she becomes powerless and gives in (Chopin, 2).
