Name: Instructor: Course: Date: Introduction. The chosen source is the film Project Nim which is the story of a 1970’s experiment that went by the same name. A psychologist by the name Herbert Terrace initiated the project as part of research that he was conducting on animal language acquisition. The scientist was very curious to know if chimpanzees could be able to learn to use human language. The chimpanzee which was later named Nim Chimpsky was only six days old when he was taken from his mother and put in a New York home where it was raised as if it was a human and later on it was taken away from the home to a residential facility and several teachers introduced to it and these teachers were responsible for teaching him how to communicate through sign language. This teaching yielded fruits because after some lessons Nim was able but are biologically wired to act in a certain way and so are the animals. So it does not matter the level of training an animal can go through or how intelligent the animal is it will remain and behave like one at some point. Conclusion. As the research in Project Nim showed chimpanzees are intelligent animals and can be taught to do some things including teaching them how to use sign language the way Nim was taught. However the fact remains that animals will forever remain how they are and it does not matter what they are taught so as to become more like humans or their level of intelligence that they possess. The animal instincts will always come out at one point of their lives. Thus it is evident that the behavior of animals cannot be entirely changed.
