I did not think of myself as a leader and neither did I practice the necessary leadership skills. This is because I had the perception that most leaders instill some sort of fear in the individuals they work for. I thought a good leader should be strict and also uptight to gain respects and get things done. I believed that a leader should be firm when making decisions and everyone should follow them. Moreover, leadership serves as a motivation and I perceived promotion and compensation as a good way to motivate the employees or group members. This course served as an eye-opener because I got to learn new communication styles, and ways in which a leader can have others follow even without giving the instructions.

I learned that a leader should have good communication skills and the ability to listen and give appropriate feedback is also very necessary for leadership. A leader is supposed to be a team player who encourages collaborative working. A leader works hand in hand with the others and comes up with better ideas on how to work effectively and efficiently. A good leader does not expect things to be done even in their sense instead, he/she helps out where necessary and steers the boat towards the right direction (Breevaart et al, 2014). From the presentation, I realized that I can effectively communicate and simply lay out my thoughts and ideas systematically.
