USING NUMERACY DATA AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Student’s Name Class Title Tutor’s Name Institution Date Question 1 A local post-office sells cards. The table below shows how many cards were sold during a one year period. Month Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Number of Cards 60 440 80 380 100 40 60 20 300 460 580 560 Draw a line graph for the information in this table discussing the trend noticed. The line graph for the information detailing the number of cards sold over the 12-month period is as shown in the figure below. Line charts provide an excellent visual method of representing the trend in a particular data set as line plots are visually attractive and therefore easy to read and interpret. The line graph shows a rather unusual trend as there are many peaks and lows in the sales made during usually equal to 360 degrees. The 20 percent proportion representing students who favor rugby can be converted to degrees by dividing it by 100 percent then multiplying the result by 360 degrees. Doing this we get 72 degrees hence we can conclude that the game of Rugby is represented by an angle equal to 72 degrees. What percentages of students play football? 35 students out of the total 50 students favor football over other sports which translate to 70 percent of students that play football. Alternatively we can derive the percentage of students that favor football over other sports by directly interpreting the pie chart. From direct observation we note that 70 percent of students play soccer. References Bajpai N. (2009). Business statistics. 1st ed. Delhi: Pearson. Chvátal V. (2016). Linear programming. 1st ed.
