It can be used as a form of entertainment or as a way to cope with a stressful event or a difficult situation. In literature, humor can be used to make the story enjoyable or create a character. In general life, an individual can have a good sense of humor meaning that the person is enjoyable to be around. Humor is not only used in literature or speech to make them amusing but also can be applied in the workplace to create a conducive working environment. People who seem to be humorous are funny. However, provocative humor like the one used by Mr. Seinfeld to address the issues of gender and race politics in colleges can be vulgar and crass (Berteaux).

Despite the fact that comedians use humor to entertain people, they can also use it to deliver an important message. For instance, according to Berteaux, Army Schumer has used comic to tackle difficult social commentaries of racism and sexism. An example of the Army's work that carries a strong message concerning social issues is the Football Town Lights, a football series' parody, which humorously warns about rape. This is because the mind is associated with inconsistency, play frames and metacommunications of one type to another. William fry in his book "Sweet Madness" argues that in the process of generation of humor, an individual is rapidly provoked by an explicit-implicit hitch when a punchline is provided (Berger, 210). This process is reversal is therefore used to distinguish between humor and play games.

The reversal aspect also provides a unique effect of initiating humor to the different participants in the reality. Individuals use different aspects to bring about the unique effect which initiates humor to individuals. Generally, humor depends on the quality of an individual of being comic or amusing. The aspect of being comic and perceiving the sense of humor is one very complex thing since it cannot be fully defined. This aspect has led to the development of different theories which try to explain the different aspects surrounding the development of humor. This led to the perception of humor as an individual's reaction between what they expect and what happens. The lack of an effective answer on how some things are not funny led to the development of a modern theory, V+N, which defines humor as the reaction of humans after the violation of the normally perceived aspect through amusement, laughter and making a judgment on the given aspect as either funny or not.
