Case Analysis Systems Acquisition

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality is an organization an agency of the United States Government that deals with research in ways to improve the healthcare system. They have quality standards that are to be met in the healthcare sector. ABC Hospital purchased an eHealth system to aid in the Patient-Centered Medical Home services. AHRQ plays a big role in the guiding of the purchase if new information systems as they carry out research that has findings which show if a system offers a better quality of healthcare services. The evidence gathered by the AHRQ is instrumental in the guidance of the purchase of an information system. The system has addressed the need for coordinated patient information. Due to a central storage point for patient information and availability of patient information through a request from the database patients can receive wholesome patient care as a caregiver can easily see all the required patient information (McCann, 2012).

The system has made patient billing easy as there is storage of patient information as well as the costs incurred by the patient. The eHealth system has made it easy to access patient information as there are proper registration and information about patients of ABC Hospital. The eHealth system has made coordination better and enabled healthcare practitioners to offer better healthcare services and keep track of patient’s progress. ABC’s eHealth system has been deployed and used, and from the use, there have been issues that arose such as security risks, inaccurate and incomplete data that have led to there being more needs that the system needs to address. ABC’s eHealth system is above average in the system usability scale.

It scored 72. 5 on a scale of 0-100. The areas that have difficulty are the system consistency due to the data output as well as the integration of system functions. The system that ABC has acquired impacts the topic of my final presentation. The current system is not running smoothly and has various shortcomings in the quality of data and information available. The system has benefits but equal demerits which affect the general view that information system brings development and makes processes easier to perform. If the eHealth system were smooth, it would make it easier to implement and improve the services offered to the patients. The shortcomings will affect the argument that technology has benefits for the health sector as it brings problems along with the benefits.
