Animals have inherent values which are measured depending on their worth to human or other species. Other nonliving things like stone do not possess interest since they cannot suffer regardless of the amount of harm we do to them. Nothing done to it can exactly amount to any harm to its welfare or make any difference. Therefore, the capacity to suffer and enjoy is both necessary and to conclude that beings have interest and the interest is not suffering. For instance, a dog has an interest of not being kicked by the owner since it has the ability to suffer and therefore, animals that experience sentience should be treated with some moral status. This, therefore, translates that if someone engages in an action that translates to pleasure and not pains to a larger number of the group then this meets the principle of morality.

In concern to responding to if the animals have the moral to consideration; it is ideal to reflect on the actions of the animals especially if such animals experience a certain level of pain. Animals will always exhaust every avenue within their proposal so as to live just the same way humans do since they also have self-awareness. They have the sense of pleasure together with the pain. Animals prefer pleasure and therefore will do everything they can so as to remain in the state of feeling pleasure throughout their lives (Linzey, 2013). Utilitarianism is a concept which states that you do what is best for the majority. In this regards, the deontologists claim that a normal action comes with a duty or an obligation and therefore if an individual performs a duty then the person behave outright and if such person fails to perform their duties then the person behaves immorally.

Deontologists work to the principle that they should discharge their duties besides the perceptions of the others since an act of a moral value does not depend on the effect expected of it or any principle of action that motivates its occurrence. Therefore, one should always act in a way that is right to all and the same way such a person would wish the same action done on the same measure. Deontology dictates that people are treated with respect and not as an object or as a means to an end. Hence the lower intelligence of animal should not be a consideration in regards to moral equality. According to Mappes & Zembaty (1987) humans are responsible for the pains the animals go through.
