Data analysis (SPSS)

NEEDS TO KNOW SPSS!!!!! Specific Questions 1. What are the univariate characteristics of the individuals with respect to your variables? 2. What kind of association is there between your dependent variable and each of your independent variables? 3. Which of your variables is the best predictor of your dependent variable? 4. What is the relative influence of each predictor variable on your dependent variable? 5. What is the predictive model obtained through your research that predicts your dependent variable? 6. Using single case in your data file, what is this person's predicted value on the dependent variable based on his or her attributes on your chosen variables? Data Set --Use the GSS2014-2.sav data file only. --Before beginning any analysis, perform a select cases and select on only those individuals who were age 30 or older (Greater than or equal to) at the time of the survey (AGE >=30). Variables 1. Dependent Variable (Choose ONE of the following): a. EDUC or b. CHILDS or c. HRS1 or d. REALRINC 2. Independent (Predictor) Variables (n =>5): a. SEX b. AGE c. At least three other appropriate variables of your choosing Report Format --A report should have these four sections (use these as your section headings in your paper): Introduction --Start broadly --Introduce your study creating interest for the reader. --What are you researching and why is it important to study this topic? Methods and Data --What is your data source? Go to http://www.norc.org/Research/Proiects/Pages/general-socia!survey.aspx for more information on the GSS --How were the data obtained? --When were the data obtained? --What is the overall sample size in the data file and what is the sample size with which you worked? --What are your variables? Be sure to identify and describe them. --What statistical procedures did you perform to obtain your results? Results --Answer the research question and specific questions identified above through your report. --Review your assignments, class notes, and textbook for assistance --Copy and paste your output tables into your document where appropriate (that is, near your discussion of your findings). (DO NOT INCLUDE ANOVA TABLES, ONLY INCLUDE DESCRIPTIVES, PEARSONS R, MODEL SUMMARY, AND COEFFICIENTS.) Conclusions --Summarize your major findings in a paragraph or more. --What did you just learn from the results? Broaden your results into information that could be of value to professionals in the social sciences and social services professions. Additional Information and Instructions --Review the grading rubric provided earlier. --Study chapters 3, 4, 9, and 10 especially, but you may want to review other chapters in the textbook. Review your graded assignments. --Write a descriptive title that will generate interest in reading your paper. --You may need to recede variables or create dummy variables depending on variables selected. Be sure to document your work in your methods section. --You may use a select cases procedure. If you do, be sure to document your work properly in the methods section. --Be sure to state a conclusion using no numbers and then follow the conclusion by your empirical evidence that supports your conclusion. Empirical evidence includes the name of the statistic being used (e.g., mean) and its value. --Cover your subject completely, but keep your report concise and interesting. You have to decide what is important and what is not important. You need to keep the reader's interest. --In the results section, it's best to state a conclusion first using no statistics. Then, write one or more sentences showing the numerical evidence (statistic name and value) that support your conclusion. --In the conclusion section, write a paragraph or more summarizing your results and then answer the "so what" question. --Spell numbers below 10 and use Roman numerals for 10 and higher. --Spell or describe names of variables; do not use SPSS variable names. --Do not begin a sentence with a numeral; if you begin a sentence with a numeral, you must spell the numeral. --Write in professional language using proper grammar and spell check work.
