Rhetorical analysis of Benjamin Banneker's letter to Thomas Jefferson
To pass his point to the secretary, he uses pathos, ethos and logos to convince Jefferson. The following is rhetorical analysis of the letter. Benjamin Banneker is fully aware of the topic he is addressing. He uses ethos to address slavery in America. His parents were former slaves. The writer of the letter also appeals to emotions of the reader when he reminds him of the past times when no help could be granted during suffering. People were helpless and hopeless before the British. Currently, there has been tranquility prevailing despite the past having been characterized by conflicts and dangerous incidences. He therefore requests him to refrain from detaining his brethren by fraud. Equally important is how Banneker evokes the feelings of his reader.
