I count the lines in paragraphs, and if you exceed the limit of eight lines, you will be deducted points. This standard applies to all paragraphs. The third header will present an opening paragraph that describes the content in 2-3 solutions made up of the same number of paragraphs (you write a paragraph for each solution) for the issue(s)/problem(s) the team will address and/or design to meet what is/are identified as issue(s)/problem(s). You will provide a conclusion paragraph and recommendation paragraph at the end of the memo. The conclusion paragraph provides a high-level summary of the key items discussed in the memo, not to exceed eight lines. A recommendation(s) paragraph can be created by applying your analysis and solution that you can pull from the content material from the chapters, primarily the section from which the case comes. You don’t introduce new information in the conclusion and recommendation. Use these headers as the outline for the memo. See a business memo example in the Content section of Beachboard. Opening paragraph describes the basic situation, and the last sentence describes what the reader will read in the memo, ending with a recommendation. Use these headers below for the memo. Issues/Problems Analysis of Issues/Problems Proposed Solutions Conclusion and Recommendation In addition, you can stop by my office to have me review a draft copy to look at formatting and structure, and to skim the overall look of the memo. I provide a tutorial on formatting and structural issues in the Content section. I will not read the memo for content, grammar, punctuation, spelling, a solution, etc. as a draft. When grading memos I first make a determination about would I turn in the memo as is to an executive, which would fall into the “A” grade category. From this point I make a determination about the formatting, structure, writing, thought development, grammar, punctuation, etc., to determine a grade based on the quality of a memo and executive reaction to memo appearance. Memo due dates do not change."
