Maori History Name of the student Subject Date Journal of New Zealand Literature The Article New Zealand Literature Review is all about the Maori Groupings. The Article provides an analysis of Maori groupings which by 2013 there were approximate 14 000-17 000 people from the Maori ancestry. Their urbanization has enabled the understanding and organization of other traditional groupings such as Hapu and Iwi. This literal review did this by using qualitative approach to give chance to Maori students and theorists to explain themselves. This Article bring the distinctive traditions that were in 1900. It mainly focus on Kai Tahu writers in early twentieth century who use non-fiction English to give history on Maori. Maori society and Culture are organized according to kinship as it is shown by groups such as Whanau Iwi and Hapu. Iwi affiliation are clearly reflects Maori groups identification. During the 2nd world war Maori Which was brought by a chief Mataora. The pigment used in the process of moko was made from charcoal mixed with plant liquid which was called “wai ngarahu” and then stored in unique cointainers. The Uhi were produced from bones of sea birds. Metal chisels (Uhi) was used after settlement of Europeans and on 20th century the tattooists start to use tattoo machines. At the early settlement of European preserved tattooed heads were made as a selling product as souvenir items. Moko and Maori other times were killed for their heads which largely contributed to the decline of tattoo and moko practices. Sometimes also Maori kill their slaves tattoo them and sold to overseas museums. The heads were called makomokai which were later brought back to New Zealand in 1980s.
