The lower level management comprises of the supervisors. The supervisors play a key role in supporting, guiding and encouraging the employees to perform the tasks that have been delegated to them which in the long-run ensures the accomplishment of the company overall goals. When we explore across different organizations, we find out that each organization has different range of supervisors. Different supervisor’s exhibit different management styles and leadership skills and the most common classifications of supervisors are explained below. One of the classifications of bosses is the autocratic supervisors. This kind of bosses tend to be possessive with their positions so as to imply that they are totally in control. They tend to be insecure and at times ignore the mistakes that have been committed by the employees.

Although they appear to be lenient, they tend to give priority to discipline rather than performance. Thirdly, the laissez faire classification of supervisors are the ones who do not exercise strict supervision on the employees. They have trust in their employees that they will perform their expectations. The team player type of supervisors is yet another category of bosses. This type of supervisors considers the opinion of subordinates in decision making at both the individual and at the group level. The supervisor also encourages the individuals to take initiatives and judgements. The supervisor gives emphasis on group work and exercises broad supervision. These bosses tend to be employee oriented and work towards motivating the employees towards high levels of performance. In addition, the classification is also based on the amount of supervision exercised by the boss.
