Effect of climate change on biodiversity

Document Type:Research Paper

Subject Area:Biology

Document 1

Based on the scientific evidence pertaining speedy evolutionary adaptation concerning biotic and abiotic spatial variations on environmental conditions, the ongoing change in climate is being expected to have a vast and distributed effects on the wild population (Ring, pg. As biodiversity positions the ecosystem’s goods and services that are decisive for the survival and well-being of humans, the paper strategically synthesizes and discusses the expected effects of environmental conditions on biotic and abiotic processes of livelihood, and the strategic measures that can be employed to reduce both the current as well as the future risks of climatic changes to the well-being of world’s populace. State of World’s Climatic Conditions The average global temperatures are rising and still predicted to continue rising.

Relational to the 1980-1999 environmental conditions, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has predicted that the temperatures are expected to grow by 1. 4 degrees Celsius in the ongoing Twenty-First century. This is generally true in Africa since the threat in habitat devastation, fragmentation or change in the use of land, and the rapid growth in population will interact with climatic changes thus imposing adverse effects than the expected (Abiven, pg. The change will lead to speedy growth demand in natural resources, resulting in changes in the forms of using land as well as leading to unsustainable use of species. It is, therefore, a crucial factor to examine the inter-linkages of changes in climate, biotic and abiotic processes with the risks created by these components by environmental changes.

The Effects of Climate Change on Biodiversity and Remedies Availability and abundance of species in Africa is declining while the threats to the diversity of species are increasing. The climatic changes being a significant cause and danger to the biodiversity and ecosystem services in this region, studies carried out by different bodies including the Nations Framework Convention on Changes in Climate indicates that those areas under fragmented ecosystems, rare species as well as under pollution and deforestation pressure are most endangered (Isbell, pg. Crop yielding ensured through the establishment of irrigation schemes will further lead to the stabilization of the world’s climatic conditions, hence playing a crucial role in ensuring that climate changes occur at beneficial constituents. On pests and diseases outbreaks, advanced treatment centers should be established prior to treating and vaccinating both humans and animals.
