The Dom is a community who migrated from India and spread to North Africa and the middle east. The dialect is articulated in the south and north Sudan, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Libya, Israel, Tunisia, Lebanon, Algeria, Syria, Morocco, Jordan as well as Egypt (Matras pg. Data surrounding this language is scarce. The variety which has been well documented is the one used in Jerusalem. Domari dialect is endangered and is presently not common among the young generation. The population of people who speak this language seems to be declining at a rapid rate. There existing documentation on the people of the Dom community is quite unreliable. In Jerusalem they are recorded to be roughly 600 to 700. In Damascus they are between 4000to 10,000.
