Some metal condition symptoms may be similar to the ones of the disease that a patient is ailing from. The discussion will be about the challenges that nurses face in diagnosing for mental illness in chronically medically ill individuals. One difficulty that health practitioners encounter is distinguishing between an adjustment reaction and a depressive condition. Some symptoms such as interrupted sleep patterns and loss of appetite that is associated with depressive disorders may also be a result of a disease that a patient is suffering from (Turner, 2000). Also, some diseases may have direct effects on an individual’s mood. Another challenge that healthcare providers often face in their work is when patients start being emotional burdens on them. This happens when individuals with more serious medical conditions provoke the feelings of anxiety and professional in the clinicians.
