The information in food labels helps people understand what they are purchasing and consuming. The information is paramount especially for the people who need the information. For instance, people who have diabetes are restricted to certain foods which mean they need to make choices of the right foods that they need before purchasing. According to Zhang et al. , (2017), in their article How Do Consumers Use Nutrition Labels on Food Products in the United States Topics in Clinical Nutrition food labeling cannot solve all the problems which are food-related. For instance, food labels may contain statistical figures and information in the form of a table and percentages (Food and Drug Administration, 2014). Secondly, it is apparent that grocery stores' new labeling scheme has come up with a more improved way of attracting customers to purchase their products.

They are likely to make the products appear healthier than they are and primarily flawed. Ruhlman, (2017), in his book, affirms that Americans are obese, unhealthy and diabetic. All these infections are not because they are not making an informed decision about what they consume but instead because of the wrong information on food labels. ” Use of such information in the food packages is just to exploit the knowledge gap in consumers. It is normal for most consumers to assume foods with such labels are healthy and good for their health. The marketers may charge the consumers a premium for the same products that do not contain the ingredient that the consumers do not want (Gracia & de-Magistris, 2016). The trend is prevalent in most grocery stores.

The labeling is much misleading the consumers to purchase their products over their competitors. The language and words used in labeling should also be controlled and intensely scrutinized (Dani & Fassam, 2016). Also, it is essential to spread public awareness to ensure customers are savvier with the entire trick used by the food labelers for their health sake. In summary, consumers are often noted to be attracted to foods that are labeled with fancy words. Foods with labels that claim to be more healthy and safe for consumption are likely to be purchased as compared to those that have actual information.
