The act guaranteed inclusivity of all categories of people such as the low-income earning families, single families as well as the low-income adult (Bodenheimer, 2005). However, while some of the citizens enrolled in the insurance, some did not since they had other private insurance plans. This research paper seeks to unravel the sources of health insurance for citizens in California regarding their age group, job categories, and income level. Health insurance coverage for college students is essential since they are vulnerable to accidents, illnesses, and drug-related complications. For the college students, the health insurance coverage is from parent health plans (Bodenheimer, 2005). Additionally, the health benefits provided to the employee by the employer depends on the factors such as budget of the firm and personnel resources.

More so, the employers’ coverage of health insurance is a strategy that is used to retain and recruits employees in a firm. Therefore, the plan serves an advantage to both the employer and employee in the large firms. While the employed in California have their source of health insurance coverage from their employer, the self-employed do not have that option. However, the Affordable Care Act requires that California State sets up its government-run marketplaces or use the government’s marketplace (Eibner et al. First, the individual should consider the size of the household since it determines the income limit (Claxton, 2009). Nevertheless, the amount of unemployment compensation for the unemployed can also determine the source of health for the unemployed individual. It is optional for the employers of small size business to provide healthcare coverage for their employees. However, there are quite some options for these employees to consider when choosing a source for health insurance. First, the minor can be under the health insurance plan of their parents mainly if they are employed. The coverage can be expended until the child attains the age of twenty-six even when they are working. However, the child can benefit from the medi-aid program if the parent is unemployed or earns below the required percentage of federal poverty level. The contribution of the health insurance premiums every month is essential, but the amount depends on the type of health insurance coverage one chooses.
