Surname Instructor Course Date "The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro" Introduction Historical records reveal that Fredrick Douglass (1818-95) was one of the fieriest orators and prominent American abolitionists. Among his well-known speeches is “"The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro ” presented on 5th July 1852 at Rochester New York. In most of his works he levied a powerful indictment against racism slaver and any other oppression that was targeting the blacks. A majority of scholars believe that he managed to act as indomitable voice of hope for his people as he preached all forms of new brands that embraced antislavery. As an abolitionist his contribution made him to act as one of the most important black leader during the 19th Century. Therefore when Douglass wrote "The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro ” he managed to act as antislavery propaganda and personal revelation he before the American crudity towards slavery is exposed to the rest of the world. To promote the optimism of his speech he takes the opportunity to conclude his work using a poem that was written by Garrison on Freedom. Therefore through his short yet provocative speech Douglass made the entire world to understand his stern ideas of setting the anti-slavery and pro-slavery apart. Indeed he managed to show “The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro family” He managed to show the black community that they did not have any reason to rejoice but instead to continue fighting for their rights until they achieve freedom.
