Abstract Many workers in the construction industry are susceptible to heat exposure in hot environment as evidenced by illness injuries and sometimes deaths that result from heat stroke. Despite the direct effects of heat the physiological effects occurring in the long term are hardly investigated. Exposure to heat repeatedly results in heat acclimatization. The physiological adjustments gradually decay after a period of time thus increases the vulnerability to injuries due to heat. Workers who are exposed repeatedly to heat exposure may suffer from kidney damage and reproductive system efficiency reduction. In the past many stress heat indices have been developed to aid in managing these problems. The heat illness sensitivity may be increased by a prolonged history of heat strokes in the past. This increase in susceptibility may indicate a non-functional thermoregulatory system that will then lead to heat stroke. To address this menace an enhanced research was conducted working populations when facing climate change. Industrial health 51(1) pp.3-15. Miller V.S. and Bates G.P. 2007.
