Seunghwan Kim ENG101 Prof Chandler 02/24/2018 How the American Dream Has ChangedThe American dream has been an idea that has propelled many americans to reach financial freedom and wealth. This is not a static idea it is rather an idea that keeps changing along with the changing times. The American dream was first coined by James Truslow Adams. In his book The Epic of America he speaks of a land where there will be equal opportunity for everyone according to ability and achievement regardless of one’s position or birth status. He envisions a country where all people will have equal opportunities for all without biases. This made people think of the American dream as acquiring material things. This lead to many people being greedy for wealth and riches and as change. The American dream became looking and finding a job that paid well to finance your student loans and also has a good retirement plan. In conclusion we can see that the American dream is an idea an idea that has been there for several generations. Like all the ideas they are not fixed and have to change to fit the situation at the moment. References Bryant S. (2018). What is the American Dream in 2016?. Investopedia.
