Perception and Cognition (Example)

Document Preview:

Perception and cognition Author Institution Date Sensation and perception People at times wonder how it is like to be a newborn how they sense the things around the world and furthermore cannot understand how the sensory information influence their development. Undoubtedly babies can hear see and respond to touch and other sensory stimuli at their tender age. Actually the babies can respond to various external stimuli like light sound touch and the other senses (Mischel 2013). For instance babies experience touch even before birth; psychologist says that the unborn can feel vibrations from outside when a pregnant woman rubs her belly. When a child is born the sense of touch becomes even more powerful and people say that when a kid has skin contact with the mother it even soothes the child when in pain. The newborn can also see although the distance of objects and assistance. The Piaget's perspective program is different from Vygotsky perspective program in that it Piaget suggest that all children are the same globally and they have similar cognitive developments. Contrary to Vygotsky each child's mental and intellectual development is influenced by their socio-cultural environment. Furthermore Vygotsky program is based on the social development utilizing the social interaction with other peers teachers and the objects in the environment. The programs are similar in that they ensure that the influence of the teacher and the peers plays a significant role in the development of the new skills. References Demetriou A. Order Description:

• Directions: Part 1: Your textbook states, "…our senses provide us with the building blocks for understanding the world around us" (Sigelman and Rider, p. 166). In 1-2 paragraphs, describe how infants come to "make sense" of the flood of sensations that they experience. • Then briefly describe the major changes in sensation and perception through childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Write 2-4 sentences for each age group. • Part 2: You need to design a program to teach 6 year-old children a new academic skill (for example, how to identify simple words). How would you approach this from Piaget’s perspective? How would you approach this from Vygotsky’s perspective? • Design two programs – one based on Piaget’s perspective and the other based on Vygotsky’s perspective. Describe the details of each program in an essay. Be sure your program designs correlate with specific concepts from the two theories. Include descriptions about how the two programs would be similar and how would they be different. Consider these questions: • Who/what would it be important for the children to interact with? Why? • How will the child learn, and how will the structure of each program foster the child’s learning? • What influences might your program include to promote learning? • Organize/Label your paper so it's evident that you address each part of the assignment. Carefully edit your essay so that it is free from grammatical and punctuation errors. • Your essay should meet the following specifications: • 2 - 3 pages in length • 1 inch margins • Times New Roman 12-point font • Resources are cited
