After release from captivity Herald traveled to his mothers-in-law home. There he found his daughter called Zonia but Martha his wife was missing. Herald took to his joblessness and also thinks he is a thief. Bertha Holly who is Seth’s wife seems to have a good relationship with Herald as she aids in taking care of Zonia and also defends Herald when her husband claims that he is a thief.
