Culture reflects the behaviors and beliefs that a certain group adheres to whilst cultural bias is as a result of cultural differences. Thus, assessment bias occurs in tests in the event that tests items cover knowledge as well as experiences that are specified to a particular culture ignoring the other. From an examiner perspective, assessment bias comes into play upon using the educator's experience rather than the one of the learner's culture to set high-performance expectations. This paper will critically evaluate what it means by cultural bias based on classroom assessment and how to combat such an issue to ensure effective performance among all learners regardless of the difference in culture. There are various ways in which an assessment can be biased, however, the most common ways are based on content or questions in the test, the provision of a specified answer, and the application of limited as well as specific vocabulary during the assessment.

The application of interpreters is another effective method that can be used to solve the problem of assessment bias in classrooms. The other approach to reducing bias in the classroom includes the introduction of a non-standardized test as opposed to a formal test that is prone to bias (Hernandez, pg. The goal is to assess students not only in timely and specified answer type assessment but orally in order for learners to understand the level of understanding of learners. In conclusion, in a classroom with diverse cultures, there is a possibility of an assessment bias happening. This is due to the inability of non-native learners to comprehend the content fully and inability to fully express oneself with the required knowledge and experience.
