The head has various Lakshanas. The Urna mark on the face shows religious awareness while the Ushnisha on the head shows enlightenment. The eyes are long after being weighed down by jewelry. This depicts his wealth the body of the Buddha is always above a lotus flower. This shows the transcendence over suffering and pain to eventually being happy and satisfied. In Japan, the Buddha statue is depicted is a more austere and intimidating posture. Although the body is above a lotus flower like the rest of the rest of the statues, it is in a standing position holding a staff on his hand. It is dressed in a black robe to represent death. The statue is associated with death in a positive way.
