Frequently, patients may feel isolated when alone for too long in ICU or ER situations, and they also tend to feel more comfortable in private setup especially during consultations and visiting hours. The application of eGlasses takes care of both cases very well; by easily restricting and allowing visibility on demand in both the patient’s and the specialist’s perspective. The elimination of curtains has also made it possible for improved infection control. The same innovation has also taken a trend in the neo-natal units. Although initial implementation cost may seem to be high, overall benefits in the long-term outweigh the cost and therefore very cost effective if well managed. By merely reading from the monitor, the nurses or doctors can know the position of the patient right away.

Readings can also be relayed at regular intervals or immediately on demand with next to no disturbance on the patient. The webcam assists in monitoring the patient virtually (without having to be present always) this allows them to have ample time of uninterrupted rest, which could be critical in their healing process. In addition to all advancements, we are slowly experiencing the replacement of the stethoscope by the sonogram machine next to the patient’s bed. In a few years to come, seeing doctors walking into ICUs, ERs and procedure rooms with stethoscopes around their neck will be an infrequent event. Secondly, all these systems that transform traditional hospitals into intelligent hospitals are in the form of robots doing all the little work differently.
