For a long time now Puerto Rico has been found on the wrong side of history due to the various issues affecting it. Juan Gonzalez through his book Harvest of Empire describes many unresolved challenges Puerto Rico has faced since the colonial period. Gonzalez gives a narration of what he experienced back in the day when Puerto Rico was at its worst. Among the many injustices that have been facing this region are cultural discrimination. Puerto Rican leaders such as Gilberto Gerena Frank Espada and Evelina Antonetty also joined the movement. The movements generated a new era of a free New York City hence awakening the political and cultural renaissance of all people including Black Americans and Puerto Ricans (Duany et al. 34).
