The aging population is usually depicted with an increase in the median and mean ages in the population, a decrease in the population proportion composed of children and an increase of proportion of the elderly population. (Jennifer M. Ortman, 2014) It is reflected that, the older population trend will continue at least in the better part of this century. This means that at present we have more old people in the population than ever. Example according to Japans population statistics in the year 2014, the population of Japan was estimated to be 127 million, however the figure is projected to reduce to 107 million which is 16%by the year 2040 and the population is further expected to reduce to 97 million (24%) by 2050 in case the current trend of the demographic pattern continue.

(Berke, 2018) Factors that have led to increased life expectancy include; improved nutrition, pharmacological technologies and advanced medical have reduced disease prevalence and improved living conditions. Furthermore, prosperity and peace after world war two was a massive and integral to the economic growth of Japan and other developed countries, resulting to high lifespans. (Beckman, 2016) Low fertility rate is another reason for aging society. In most developed countries the number of children given birth to by each woman and their reproductive life (total fertility rate) has gone below the threshold of replacement of 2 to 1 since the year 1974, and has reached a historically low about 1 to 26 in 2005.
