It is estimated that around 10 million military soldiers died, civilians death was estimated at around 7 million, those injured were around 21 million while those missing or imprisoned were 7. 7 million (Edgerton, 1999). In addition, there war was fought trenches which were supported by machine guns, airplanes, tanks, and artillery and infantry assaults. This therefore means that the war was mostly static with very little mobility. This also included use of submarines, tanks and secret communication which used encryption of codes. This war was mainly a war of ideologies like communism and capitalism. This wars lead to reduced population and poor economies in the countries due to the high numbers of people especially young men who were recruited to fight.
