His earlier actions haunt him since he did them believing that the Party was always right. He is tortured as an attempt to make him confess to deeds he had not committed. At the end of the book, he regrets having dedicated his life to the Party yet it is the same Party was now responsible for his persecutions (Koestler &Hardy, 1950). The events that transpired in the 1930s during the reign of Joseph Stalin who was the leader of the Soviet Communist rule include evolution of the Party's "proletarian" dictatorship which was something similar to making the country to be an autocratic rule by Stalin which was practiced by the used of unknown police and the Communist Party (Koestler & Simon, 2015). Thesis Statement: Having read the book "Darkness at Noon" the main aim of my paper is to compare the events of the Russian history at the time of Joseph Stalin and the events that transpire in the book.

In the 1920s, he came up with five year plans to transform the Soviet Union from being a Soviet Society to becoming an industrial power. He ruled by eliminating anyone who opposed his ideas. He used secret police and spies to know and kill anyone who was against his ideas. He built a cult of personality where Cities and towns were named after him. History books of the Soviet Union were rewritten to honour him and advance his role. Stalin conspired in many mass murders in case anybody was against his opinions. It is, therefore, true that there exists a very strong relationship between the events that transpired in the "Darkness at Noon" and the modern Russian history. Human beings should lead a life with dignity.

He explains this by stating that to prepare an omelette, one needs to break some eggs. Reason can be used to counsel bureaucratic neutrality, torture and other painful human experiences (Kingsley & Koestler, 1951). In the case where farmers in 1920 refused to cooperate to the orders of Stalin of making agriculture a collective, they were either shot, exiled or punished. This led to a great famine in Russia. In the 1930s the living standards in Russia rose despite the fact that there was a problem of production and shortages. However, housing was a great problem during the reign of Stalin. Households who had more than one room were around 6 percent. The man cried with a lot of pain and agony which made Rubashov question what they had done to that man.
