In this case, the teachers act as a passage of adages and timeless truths to the youth. On the other hand, the progressive education gets based on the hands-on experience the young people get by themselves without the intermediation of the teachers. The knowledge gained by the youth is wholly pinned to their effort in discoveries and urge to know more about the current world. Dewy further talks about the pros and cons of the type of education. Traditional education involves interactions between two different kinds of people in two different age brackets. Knowledge gained from the books can also be acquired through drill experiences, and youths garner practical expertise in instances where these techniques get implemented. Secondly, traditional education imposes knowledge in a top-down manner as opposed to progressive education which allows the youth an opportunity to express their identities.
