However, the statuses are seen to be non-linear rather than stages by Marcia. According to Marcia, Identity diffusion is a status that is carried by and characterizes adolescents who have not made a decision to be associated with a certain identity. For instance, an adolescent who has not contemplated college admission or job prospects can be thought to be in an identity diffusion state in regard to their professional identity. The solution for the identity diffusion may not be realized until an occurrence of an experience which will escalate into a crisis. Identity Foreclosure is a status that involves self to devote to a certain identity without prior consent or choice of exploring the status. These are factors that led to my identity-status although they are expected to change with various experiences in one’s personal life.
