The advent of new communication technologies dramatically impacts how synchronous communication takes place, and the connection is a paramount aspect of the social domain. Man is deemed as a social being, with the ability to socialize and interact with one another in various dimensions. Over the recent one to two decades, individuals’ potential and psyche to socialize in personal contact has been hijacked by the introduction of electronic media and mobile phones. Currently, the authentic interpersonal contacts have been reduced into impersonal contacts with the social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter. The resounding growth of the influence the digital gadgets and social media has on interpersonal interactions is rapid and eloquent. Social media is thus, characterized by presence, conversations, sharing, groups, an identity, reputation, groups, and relationships which attract the users’ attention, thus compelling them into a sort of addiction (Qualman, 2010).

According to Crone & Dahl, 2012, Social Networking Sites are paramount in inducing users to feel connected with their loved ones. They instill a sense of belonging when there are ongoing interactions even when the geographical gap involved between the users is large. The participants are able to socialize with their friend at school, work and get to make new other friends. The networking sites have drastically changed the original personal nature of human communications, in that they have come to supplement the ancient forms of social interactions. Cyber bullying can thrive on even when privacy settings are extremely high, hence easy retrieval of personal information. Websites are important centers of information the young users can harness the information shared for the betterment of their academic prowess.

In the early years, the websites and internet access was primarily meant for academic research, but the advent of modernity has paved the way for both communication and entertainment purposes amongst the youths. According to Erikson’s theory (1953) on the effects of social media sites on learners, he postulates that teenager utilizes social media mainly not for academic progression but interaction. Erikson figures out that the platforms give a student a kind of imaginary friend who cannot let the learner get bored at all (Fischer & Reuber, 2011). A study conducted by online networks demonstrates that website communications are instrumental to the society’s social capital. It is evident that web communications promote new relationships and provide individuals with additional ways of interacting other than through physical contact. These emerging communications are likely to breed forth an increase in social capital. The conducted research by the Pew Internet Survey of 2006 show that individuals who use internet –based communication tools possess a bigger capacity of making new ties and friends than those who do not. Adolescence stage among the young people is linked with an urgent need for relationships and group affiliations alongside a communication strategy. The gradual shifts in communication mannerisms within the growing teenagers constitutes of a fundamental implication concerning their communication and relationships in life. The increasing urgency to communicate and exchange is influenced by peer-based interconnectedness which therefore is critical among the growing adolescents.

This chatting gives them a sense of ownership and assists them to get to comprehend the partners better. This exemplifies the long durations undertaken in their social network platforms. The geographical radius to the loved ones and time-consuming logistics may hamper the old people from getting in touch with social contacts. Social media ought to overcome these obstacles by offering online discussion platforms that can engage the adult regardless of geographical or time barriers. Furthermore, the social media channels give new possibilities to interact socially and elevate the feeling of self-efficacy and control. Their absenteeism had given rise to more moral and ethical continuity of the authentic contacts that prevailed in the past before the advent of the internet intervened (Marwick & Boyd, 2014). The negative aspect of engulfing social media is counteracted with the positive ones. The ability to communicate with a large number of users regardless of geographical depth and with speed is among the most significant advantages of using social media. Massages can be disseminated at high speed and accuracy, in comparison with the old days when communication depended upon physical contacts. The current developments have motivated globalization; hence the world is seemingly becoming smaller too. This is subjected to the fact that there is overreliance in internet related modes of communication, which denies room for interpersonal physical contact.

People are more curious about checking out their friends via their Smartphone every time rather than interacting with the families and especially children who need to be guided and developed. Many families have broken up because of failed communication strategy within the family. Despite the positive significance culminated by the social media, it can as well induce blindness and deafness to the conditions surrounding us (Wang, Yu & Wei, 2012). It is equally argued that social networks have impacted the youths’ communication I writing. With the advent of social media, the business people can connect target audiences without incurring a lot of fees. Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter are proficient in advertising and selling of excellent business deals (Marwick & Boyd, 2014). While it has dramatically impacted businesses and disoriented interpersonal communication, the tool can further be harnessed to reap more benefits over the traditional face to face contacts.
