Organ Transplant and Tourism
It may constitute organ trafficking. The organ donors are usually coerced, paid or deceived to give consent. The donors’ wellbeing is usually disregarded by both the buyer and organ harvesters (Babik & Chin-Hong, 2015). Organ transplant comes with various risks that must be understood and anticipated. Organs from suspect sources supplied by vendors who acquire them illegally and unethically may pose a danger to the recipients. The organs should be harvested from healthy donors upon prove of their consent. Secondly, the practice of organ transplant should be transparent, legal and by licensed qualified medical practitioners (Kotton & Hibberd, 2013). The donors and recipients should be tested and found to be compatible before the transplant. Most importantly, insurance companies should not extend their medical cover to countries where organ trafficking is rampant.
