Similarly, the policy ensures that it is not against any regulation. Since its introduction, the main goal of the policy is to boost the quality of healthcare services. Further, the policy seeks to provide standardization in every day operational activities. Mental illness affects everyone either directly or indirectly. For patients suffering from mental illnesses, a range of social, medical, behavioral and service needs should be at their disposal. Half the number of patients suffering from co-occurring mental illnesses does not get any treatment with the hope of curing the illnesses. When it comes to children, those suffering from mental problems have a tendency of dropping out of school. Since public mental health services are inadequate and of low quality, to say the least, mentally ill partners have been forced to seek services at private healthcare facilities which tend to charge a fortune.
Those who are unable to pay for private healthcare hospitals handling mental cases have been subjected to limited treatment at public hospitals thus leading to further deterioration of their health. In a nutshell, failure to provide quality and affordable health care is what prompted research and later implementation of the mental health policy. Mental health programs have also been used as a form of promotion. An example of such a program is Thrive, which is at par with New York’s goal of curbing the rise of mental illness cases and promote mental health. The Thrive program that was endorsed in 2015 has achieved a lot in the mental health care sector. The program has ensured people are trained in mental health first aid, and expectant mothers suffering from depression have also undergone screening through the program.
The program has also seen psychologists and social workers being recruited to assist in dealing with mental illnesses (Druss, 2007). It had been proven that stigma is what prevents people suffering from mental illnesses from getting the help they urgently require. The policies also strive for persuading other mental health policymakers to ensure the positive transformation of the mental health care system. Conclusion Even as New York State and the US generally promote mental health care policy, they understand that prevention of the illness should be prioritized. All in all, the oil in the engine that is pushing New York forward is having a common purpose and the state’s collaboration with relevant agencies. References Boardman. , Hackbarth, N.
