Summary of the Article This article defines emotional abuse and discusses the types of classroom behaviors teachers may demonstrate that are emotionally abusive to students. It also gives a statistical analysis of reports and a case study conducted on a randomized population to estimate the rampancy of emotional abuse by teachers. The role of school‐based counselors in the prevention and treatment of emotional abuse is discussed. Emotional abuse of schoolchildren is a highly prevalent problem with social, cultural and health dimensions. For example, a teacher inducing methods that scares children harms them emotionally making the view class an academic abattoir hence affecting learning.
