It was difficult to secure one due to the Great Depression. “I did not know what to do but I kept on sending applications to the local businesses ” Hubert said. Eventually he managed to get a job in a local grocery store where he earned $400 a month. Despite the high earning Hubert was unconvinced late in the evening Hubert received the bad news that Gano died as the doctors tried to resuscitate him. He had already lost a lot of blood by the time he got to the hospital. Several Hubert’s friends died and others were badly injured. Conclusively although Hubert is now 98 years he remembers vividly the Pearl Harbor attack.
