Name Institution Tutor Date Jean-Paul’s “The Wall” From Jean-Paul's "The Wall" the author explains the nature of man by considering the consciousness in humankind. According to Sartre human consciousness constitutes nothingness freedom and alienation. Ideally Sartre agrees with the Husserl's theory of consciousness that "consciousness is consciousness of something". According to Hegel and Karl Marx alienation is defined as the condition of the divided selfhood whereby a person is separated from his or her true being ("Jean-Paul Sartre" 47). Pablo feels the sense of alienation after realizing that he has been sentenced to death. The first illustration of Pablo's state of mental alienation is observed when unhappy. However he saves his life by choosing to prioritize his life before Ramon’s. Even though he had to be responsible for Ramon’s death and its consequences perhaps he felt relieved after having his life safe ("Jean-Paul Sartre"89). Similarly Tom urinates on himself and he does not feel it because of alienation. Despite the hardships he communicates with others till he manages to solace his condition (p.97). Based on the illustrations we can conclude that human beings should prioritize their interest in order to be happy. Furthermore we should be courageous to face the challenges that deprive us the freedom of mind. Work Cited "Jean-Paul Sartre." 2013. [...]
