The school of post-colonial though delves more on the way Europeans powers including France, Britain, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Spain conquered and controlled nations into the years running into the 1990s and how the controlled nations especially in Africa responded to and waged resistance to the control. It most points to the aspects of societal and cultural changes. Under those changes, the societies became aware of their social, psychological and cultural inferiorities that was enforced on them by the colonialists. They also begun struggling across ethnic, cultural and political dimensions in order to gain autonomy. Ultimately, the developed a sense of awareness of the cultural hybridity and overlapping in power especially in context of race. it is high time to question this orthodoxy. ” He claims that western colonialism was “as a general rule that was objectively beneficial and subjectively legitimate in most places where it was found. ” He further argues that those nations that adopted the policies of the colonialism became more successful. In his perspective, he says that anti-colonialists mobilized nationalists were illiterate majority with objective to halting development of market economies, constitutionalism and policy processes. Such thoughts are what has drawn deep criticism for the colonizers left behind poor economics and local communities were harmed by colonization. Critiques argues the colonialism is not contentious as he argues but rather a nation is invaded, conquered and occupied at its governing institutions dismantled to be replaced with absolute rule.

There is separation between the colonist and the colonized with subjects inhumanely treated. The three proposals by Gilley are illiberal as the go against the basis premises of freedom from foreign domination, free market economy and individual freedoms and liberties. Gilley fails to put forward formidable evidence bearing interdisciplinary argumentation regarding colonialism and colonialists. Libertarians view liberty as the central rights of individual citizens. Gilley goes forward in trying to justify colonization. He proposes that history needs to be “reframed” in order to point to the positivity of colonialism, economize colonialism such that the colonialists pay their subjects for control and the colonialists ought to adopt the cultures of the colonized states as well as their systems of governance. He is flawed for colonization cannot be legitimate as it is founded on exploitative systems where natives are forced to conform to western ideals and are hindered from advancing their individual rights.
