Two weeks ago, he confided in James and told him that he (John) had impregnated Sheila (the school head girl). John, however, pleaded with his friend not to share this information with anyone. Teacher-student love affair is against the codes and works ethics of the school. James has suddenly become anxious about whether to protect his friend or report him to the administration for violation of work ethics. Should he or should he not state the case? Thesis Statement Two situations present – keeping quiet for the sake our mutual friendship or securing the future of girls against psychological and emotional trauma. Thus, it highlights guidelines that would guide James in the next course of action. In other words, reporting such cases is ideal in several instances.

First, it will ensure John takes full responsibility both financially and materially to provide both the mother and the unborn child are safe. It also prevents the possibility of similar events soon automatically. Objection 1 Even though James has messed his reputation considerably, reporting him could be the most detrimental action to consider. John as an adult had full knowledge of the codes of conduct. The decision to be in an affair with a schoolgirl was a plan that John invented. He therefore decided and sealed his end. Argument 2 Protection of freedom and rights of people is necessary for our daily lives. People regard children as people who cannot make proper decisions for themselves. Deploying others means of solving the problem such as advising John to talk to the girl’s parents to find an amicable way of addressing the issue would have been better according to them. They might also say the girl was not forced but consented to the request, and therefore her rights were not violated. Rebuttal 2 In response to this claim, I would argue that being law-abiding entails reporting aggressive acts to the authorities. All citizens have a moral right to not only respect but also protect the rights of others especially the minors. As a result, it was a morally right report, John. Improving his work ethic will help him in future since he will have learned from his mistakes.

Objection 3 Some people may, however, object this argument by saying that James had selfish motivation towards his actions. They would argue that he reported his friend not to help him but as a mere means of his narrow end. In doing so, he demonstrated his lack of respect as he claimed for his friend. James act of reporting his friend is hence moral since it is justice for both parties. Argument 4 John’s act of contamination to the minor is against the law. Every citizen should abide by and keep the requirements at all costs. In line with this, James has a responsibility to report any act that breaks the law. Constitutionally, it is a moral responsibility of every citizen to a bid by and protects the code.

Many lawbreakers have on several occasions gone free without any punishment. They therefore argue that John, just like others stand a chance of maneuvering his ways to freedom even after being reported. It is hence a waste of time saying the matter. Temper justice with mercy is the basis of their argument. They consequently maintain that James should not venture into activities that might not bear any fruit in the end. These expectations, therefore, subjects him to a state of guilt that can only be solved by reporting the matter. His action is thus justifiable since he did it to set himself free from sin. Objection 5 Others will, however, object this reasoning by claims that James might have reported his friend to serve his ego.

The application is in contrast with the theory of deontology and supported by the principle of egoism. Egoism, especially at workplaces, gives people the permission only considers what benefits their personal needs. His act of reporting John to the authorities and consequently explaining the circumstances under which they occurred was morally and ethically right. Reporting his friend to the authorities would have been ethically wrong if there existed other justifiable means of solving the problem. But since the other methods were inadequate in their solutions, James’ act was in line with the moral theory of “doing what is best for the greatest number and rational self-preservation. ” References Sikes, P.
