Therefore it is important to know that young adulthood is a critical stage that can influence the development of smoking patterns. This methods paper will try to describe methods to be applied to examine and investigate the smoking behaviors among young adults (Berg, 2013). The objectives will be to investigate and compare the smoking behaviors among young adults, youth and adults, establish if there are sex preferences to smoking among young adults and to identify the “risk groups” among young adults. Therefore, this research paper will compare different research methodologies in examining smoking behaviors among young adults and how a methodology can be applied to describe and obtain data to analyze smoking patterns among young adults. Research Method and Design Appropriateness When research studies are being conducted, Descriptive or Correlation methods of research such as surveys or naturalistic observation can be used.

This method will involve the observer identifying the group to be studied, observing the group and then collecting data from observation. In the natural scenario, the group being observed is not aware and therefore the data collected will be a true reflection of their original behaviors (Leary, 2004). However, the observational method can sometimes be affected by the prejudice of the group being observed. Also, a lot of time and other resources are required to complete an objective observation. Quantitative research methods typically are used to collect hard, raw facts usually numbers. S Department of Health and Human Services and the National Health Institution Survey. Population Young adults represent an age bracket between 18-25 years. This group possesses the highest risk of smoking.

As noted earlier this group undergoes several transitions during this period which makes them susceptible to smoking (Hammond, 2005). Also, it is important to be aware that this population is more likely to stop smoking than the older adults; In fact, a lot of educational efforts on smoking control should be directed to the group. Respondents included a total number of 1528 young adults who completed the survey. These participants were drawn from an internet-based panel of surveys by the organizations related to young adults’ population associated with smoking behaviors. An age bracket of 18-25 for participants was used. A 79. 3% response rate was achieved in the survey. The agencies provide comparable data sources that are comparable but are not identical. A variety of surveys, surveillance and data collection evaluation systems collects data from sub-national levels (states) and also national levels.
