Appiah in his article remarked that there are distinct places as well as situations in college. The salient theme that is raised in his article is the purpose of higher education in colleges-knowledge or utility? (Appiah, pg. 67) Universities are obligated to ensure they will offer education that will contribute to the development of creative solutions that will better the lives of people in the society. Additionally, higher education institution strives to offer education that will promote freedom and democracy for humankind. Thus it is important to note that the purpose of education is based on the following core principles that are aimed at imparting both education and utility. Thus, it is clear that the purpose of education is offered to promote theacquisition of both knowledge and happiness.

Regarding the grades and money, scores of students perceive grades as the most important factor in their academic life. However, we all understand that money is another crucial element in our daily lives. It is easy to remark that there is a correlation between money and the grades. Myself as a college student, I strongly believe there is astrong relationship between money and grades. The same pressure for the need of good grades is also witnessed to those students that on scholarships because they are afraid of losing the financial aid in case they are unable to attain the average set grade level. The grading system and money haveaffected inversely the quality of education since plenty of students are unwilling to undertakehard subjects for dear of scoring low grades.
