End of Prohibition Students Name Institution End of Prohibition The 21st amendment of the United States was ratified in 1933 (Miron & Zwiebel 1991). This repealed the 18th amendment and brought an end to the era whereby there was a national prohibition of the use of alcohol in the United States. Utah was the 36th states in the US to ratify this amendment whereby it achieved the requisite approval of three-fourths of the majority state members (Schrad 2017). Earlier that day some states such as Ohio and Pennsylvania had already ratified the amendment (Miron & Zwiebel 1991). It was in the 19th century when the movement that demanded the prohibition of alcohol began (Schrad 2017). This was done by citizens who were concerned about the effects of the use of alcohol which started forming temperance societies. These groups had become very powerful political forces by the end of the influence of alcohol may not be valued. In conclusion the ratification of the 21st amendment ended the prohibition of alcohol. Some of the laws that were related to the drugs include the Volstead Act. There were several effects that were as a result of alcohol abuse including lack of respect to partners and family members especially children killings through by accident. The society is also affected in one way or the other by the fact that a lot of money is used on alcohol rather that developing the society. Legalizing alcohol use has made the work of the professional counselors harder since they have to ensure that their customers are not under the influence. References Miron J. A. & Zwiebel J.
